6 games rotting in your backlog you must play now

We all have them. Those massive digital libraries of games sitting patiently on our hard drives, waiting for our attention. We categorize them as a “backlog,” a daunting mountain of potential fun that we are somehow, inevitably, going to tackle.

But there is a strange, insidious little lie we tell ourselves about these massive queues: the comforting delusion that we are simply saving those games “for later.” We file them away, promising ourselves future leisure, a perfect time when the demands of daily life will finally subside.

We wait for the perfect alignment of circumstances. We wait for the mythical moment when the work finally ends, or when the elusive long weekend stretches out like an infinite horizon. We hold our breath, hoping that the stars will align just so, granting us the necessary free time to finally boot up that epic, 80-hour-long game we’ve been dreaming about.

The reality, of course, is a little less celestial. The moment those perfect conditions arrive—the moment the time finally seems right—the “later” never actually comes around. The backlog remains exactly where it is, mocking our temporal promises.

It seems the true challenge of gaming isn’t acquiring the games, but mastering the art of the immediate dive. Because while we are waiting for the perfect time to start, the opportunity to start is always right now. The promise of “later” is just a nice distraction, but the reality is that the time for epic adventures is always today.
