Active Matter sells half a million copies
When development studio Matter Team launched Active Matter, they promised players a unique blend of realistic military shooting and a deeply unsettling, fractured multiverse. More than a month after its debut, this PvE-focused horror extraction shooter has managed to capture a significant portion of the gaming landscape, selling half a million copies.
The game’s journey has been marked by impressive traction, particularly on the Xbox platform, which currently represents the largest share of players. While Active Matter is available across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, the success on Microsoft’s ecosystem highlights a strong demand for this specific type of high-intensity, narrative-driven gameplay.
The success of the title has not only been measured in sales but also in its steady performance. Anton Yudintsev, co-founder of publisher Gaijin Entertainment, commented on the achievement, noting that selling half a million copies is a very strong result for a hardcore game. He was especially encouraged by the fact that sales have remained remarkably steady since launch, avoiding the sharp opening-week spike typical of many premium releases.
Yudintsev suggested that the results indicate a substantial audience is actively seeking this kind of immersive experience, positioning the game as just the beginning of an exciting narrative. “It shows us that there is a substantial audience looking for this kind of experience, and Active Matter is only at the beginning of its journey,” he stated, expressing excitement for future expansion.
The core appeal of the game lies firmly in its post-launch potential. Although specific details on future updates are yet to be revealed, the development team has outlined a roadmap of exciting additions designed to deepen the experience. These planned updates include new maps, expanded weapon options, fresh monsters, new booses, and significant visual improvements.
The widespread praise for Active Matter often centers on its PvE modes. As the game continues to evolve, the focus on balancing these demanding modes and prioritizing narrative depth will be key to Matter Team’s future content decisions. Fans are now eagerly anticipating how the team will expand the multiverse and deliver on the promise of this unique extraction shooter experience.
