AMD expands FSR 4.1 to GPUs, APUs, and Xbox consoles
AMD has dropped some seriously exciting news for gamers everywhere, announcing a massive expansion of FSR 4.1 support. This isn’t just a minor patch; it’s a strategic move aimed at making cutting-edge upscaling technology accessible to a much wider array of hardware, from older graphics cards to the latest mobile chips and even major gaming consoles.
The update, spearheaded by Jack Huynh, SVP and GM of Computing and Graphics, brings FSR 4.1 across the entire RDNA 2 lineup of desktop GPUs. This means that players with older but still capable hardware, such as the budget RX 6400 or the flagship RX 6950 XT, will now benefit from this enhanced upscaling feature, significantly improving performance and visual quality across the board.
But the reach doesn’t stop at desktop GPUs. AMD is equally committed to broadening this technology across its entire silicon ecosystem. FSR 4.1 support extends to AMD’s APU ecosystem, encompassing the latest Ryzen AI Max chips like the “Strix Halo” and “Gorgon Halo,” as well as the mobile Ryzen AI 9 processors, including the “Strix Point” and “Gorgon Point” models.
Handheld gaming fans will also celebrate this announcement, as FSR 4.1 has been confirmed for the upcoming Ryzen Z2 series, promising smoother performance on portable devices. Furthermore, this technology is integrating seamlessly with Microsoft, as a collaboration with Microsoft brings FSR 4.1 directly to the Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Beyond hardware compatibility, AMD is pushing the envelope further by integrating FSR 4.1 into the Vulkan API. This integration is set to further enhance the game library, helping to boost the already impressive list of titles that support AMD’s FSR “Redstone” technology.
In short, this update demonstrates AMD’s commitment to broad, inclusive gaming experiences. By extending FSR 4.1 support across RDNA 2 desktop cards, mobile APUs, and consoles, AMD is ensuring that more gamers—regardless of their hardware age—can access stunning visuals and higher frame rates.
