Apple is pushing the boundaries of computing once again, rolling out the powerful M6 system-on-chip to two more flagship models. This latest processor upgrade is set to land on the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac lineup, giving these devices a significant boost as the company gears up for its upcoming “Pro and Tell” event.

These updates aren’t just about a new chip; they are about future-proofing design. The devices retain their sleek, recognizable aesthetics, but beneath the surface, they are packed with next-generation performance. For the MacBook Pro, the M6 is engineered with 12 CPU cores and 12 GPU cores, complemented by dual neural engines designed to handle demanding on-device AI workloads.

The configuration options are robust. Users can choose up to 32GB of RAM, ensuring that these machines are ready for the most intensive creative and professional demands. Connectivity is also dramatically improved, incorporating Apple’s N1 networking chip, which delivers Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 technology.

The iMac also benefits from this technological leap. While the full chip offers maximum performance, Apple offers a smart cut-down option with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, catering to a range of user needs. These iMacs also inherit the networking advantages, including 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, further cementing their role as high-speed workstations.

Connectivity remains a key focus. Both the MacBook Pro and iMac integrate advanced ports, featuring Thunderbolt 4 connections. The number of ports scales with the chip configuration, offering users either two or four high-speed ports.

The true excitement lies in the integration of these powerful chips with Apple’s intelligence framework. These new machines are explicitly positioned as AI-forward systems, seamlessly integrating the recently released Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features within macOS 27 Golden Gate. This positions the hardware not just as fast, but as intelligently capable.

Pricing reflects the power being delivered. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 will start at $1,999, and the iMac starts at $1,499 for the 10-core configuration, with the full chip configuration starting at $1,699. Educational discounts are also available across the board.

This wave of hardware refreshes underscores Apple’s continuous commitment to innovation. It comes just ahead of other exciting announcements, including the redesign of the iPad Mini with an OLED display, signaling a major push into new display technologies and AI-driven computing experiences.
