Assassin’s Creed Destiny cancellation leaks revealed
The promise of the Assassin’s Creed franchise is vast, stretching across history and countless digital realms. While the focus remains on the exciting return of the series to China through the mobile-exclusive Jade, whispers of another potential epic development surfaced, detailing a sprawling, console and PC adaptation that ultimately never made the cut.
This phantom project, known internally as Assassin’s Creed Destiny, hinted at a massive undertaking that involved some of the industry’s heavyweights. Reports suggested that Ubisoft and Tencent were quietly collaborating with the talented TiMi Studio Group—a subsidiary also involved with the Jade project—to craft a full-scale Assassin’s Creed title set in the historical period of the Qin Dynasty.
What made this potential game particularly tantalizing were the prototype glimpses that surfaced. These early materials, dating back to a February 2025 prototype, provided exciting insight into the game’s mechanics and atmosphere. Viewers could catch early footage featuring a female assassin navigating a sacred palace under siege by the formidable historical figure Xiang Yu and his forces.
The leaked clips showcased familiar Assassin’s Creed staples: breathtaking stealth kills, challenging parkour takedowns, and the signature leap of faith that defines the series. Even glimpses of a boss encounter with Xiang Yu were visible, promising a grand scale and intense action.
However, this ambitious vision met an abrupt halt. The development of Assassin’s Creed Destiny appears to have been scrapped before it could properly enter production. This cancellation coincided with significant internal restructuring at TiMi, which saw the studio split into multiple specialized teams in early 2025.
This corporate shuffle created a bottleneck, leading to the shelving of several ambitious titles in the region, including the Greek-mythology action game Athena and the stylized cyberpunk open-world title Invictus, which was led by veteran Assassin’s Creed talent Ashraf Ismail.
It is a rare and fascinating story in game development circles to see prototype footage of a game that was planned but ultimately cancelled. While the future of Assassin’s Creed Destiny remains unexplored, the journey of development—and the lessons learned from its abrupt end—still contribute to the ongoing success of projects like Jade.
