Built a custom GitHub app store using Claude
GitHub is a treasure trove, hosting an enormous quantity of genuinely great free and open-source software that fuels countless projects worldwide. Yet, navigating this vast landscape often feels less like discovering a treasure and more like wrestling with a frustrating digital maze.
The problem isn’t the code itself; it’s the interface for discovery and installation. For many, interacting with GitHub can be an overwhelmingly poor experience. There is no intuitive browsing by category, no simple, one-click install button, and often, the necessary context is missing. It’s as if the platform assumes you are already an expert, demanding you understand complex concepts like a build toolchain before you even start.
This friction point—the gap between the incredible potential of open source and the clunky reality of its current interface—led to a personal frustration. The desire to simply find and deploy useful tools without getting bogged down in complex navigation was strong.
Tired of wrestling with the existing system, the solution wasn’t to simply accept the poor experience, but to build a workaround. Drawing inspiration from cutting-edge tools, I turned to artificial intelligence to help bridge this gap. Using advanced models, I engineered an application-like layer that sits directly on top of GitHub.
This custom layer functions much like an app-store, designed to simplify the discovery process. It transforms the overwhelming feed into an accessible, curated environment, allowing users to find and install open-source projects with far greater ease and clarity. It’s a testament to the idea that even the best platforms can be enhanced when paired with smart, bespoke solutions.
