Bungie reveals Destiny content restoration plan next week
The wait is almost over for many Destiny 2 players. After years of speculation, Bungie is finally moving to restore the previously cut story content, promising a significant update to bring the game back to its full, original form.
This major shift comes after Bungie’s head of product, Josh Deane, recently revealed plans regarding the ‘unvaulting’ process on social media. While a firm date for the restoration hasn’t been set, the company is expected to provide an outline of the plan next week, shedding light on whether the content will be released all at once or gradually across a series of updates.
The journey back to the full Destiny universe has been complicated by previous decisions. The Content Vault, designed to streamline the install size and push players toward newer content, ultimately created friction. It left some long-time players frustrated by the removal of beloved DLCs and, crucially, made it difficult for new arrivals to grasp the full narrative history.
Bungie’s management of content has faced other hurdles, including a challenging plagiarism lawsuit where the company struggled to prove the original campaign existed within the game. This required reliance on external footage, a strategy that ultimately did not satisfy the legal requirements.
Despite these complications, the core mission remains: restoring the story. The removal of content, especially titles like Forsaken, was a considerable blow to the community, as those expansions are widely regarded as some of the strongest additions Destiny 2 has ever offered.
Now, the focus shifts to the future. It is anticipated that the complete Destiny 2 experience will be restored in the coming months, bringing back all previously removed narrative and mission content. This move is poised to benefit both veteran players eager to re-experience classic missions and newcomers who can finally step into the rich lore of the game.
Beyond the restoration of Destiny 2, there are ongoing whispers that Bungie may be exploring other ambitious projects, including the potential development of a Destiny 1 remaster, aiming to bring the original game to PC for the first time.
