When 007: First Light launched in May, it immediately captivated players with its slick action and undeniable Bond atmosphere. But while the campaign delivered thrilling cinematic moments—like a fight on a cargo plane or a massive truck chase—some felt the vehicular action didn’t quite live up to the Bond mystique.

The disappointment largely centered on the cars. While the game tantalizingly showcased vehicles like the Aston Martin Valhalla throughout the narrative, the actual driving segments were often brief and lacked the memorable flair one expects from a James Bond adventure. The high-profile vehicle sequences, including the Valhalla, felt more like set dressing than actual gameplay.

Fortunately, the developers listened to the community, and the situation was thankfully rectified. Earlier this week, IO Interactive released the Extended Operations DLC pack, providing a fresh injection of high-octane gameplay that finally brought the desired vehicle freedom to the forefront.

The new content introduces exciting new modes and missions. One standout is Valhalla Protocol, which transforms the game into a spectacular action simulator. Players can now take the Valhalla out onto the open road, blasting through the mountains of Slovakia, blowing up drones and rival vehicles with rockets and twin machine guns.

Beyond the open-road mayhem, the DLC also features Jungle Heist, which completely reworks the game’s iconic Vietnamese hotel. Here, Bond must pilfer crucial documents by navigating a randomized, high-stakes affair within the opulent villa, adding a layer of tactical mischief to the adventure.

To enhance the experience further, the DLC bundles several valuable additions. Players gain access to a Photo Mode, allowing them to replay the campaign in different suits and fine-tune their gadget loadouts. They also unlock a new “00” difficulty level and, for a touch of canine charm, they can now pet a bulldog included in the game.

The success of First Light was staggering, cementing it as the fastest-selling title in IO Interactive history, selling 1.5 million copies within the first 24 hours. This phenomenal reception has sparked wider industry interest. While discussions continue about whether IO Interactive will develop a sequel, the studio’s status remains a hot topic, with reports suggesting Amazon Gaming is considering purchasing the developer outright.
