The world of Dune: Awakening”>Dune: Awakening is evolving faster than the desert sands themselves. While Funcom has meticulously refined the core survival experience, the studio is now shifting its focus outward, inviting players to venture into entirely new, hostile environments on Arrakis.

The next major expansion set to drop in December is called Blood and Ice”>Blood and Ice, which promises to flip the entire survival paradigm. Players will leave the searing heat of the sands behind and head north to explore the frigid, stark beauty of the Polar Sink”>Polar Sink, a brand new survival map that demands a complete adaptation to extreme climate conditions.

This isn’t just a change of scenery; it’s a fundamental shift in gameplay. Instead of simply avoiding the heat, players must now actively seek out the extreme cold of the tundra and icecap biomes. Survival in the Polar Sink”>Polar Sink hinges on mastering traversal and temperature management, forcing players to develop new technologies to thrive in the frozen wilderness.

Adding to the environmental complexity are the powerful forces of trade. Both the tundra and the icecap are tightly controlled by powerful “water shippers”—wealthy traders who monopolize the polar regions and control access to Arrakis’ most valuable resources. The core objective of the expansion becomes breaking this stranglehold on the ice, allowing players to cool their base equipment back in the desert and dramatically speed up resource production.

Funcom estimates that this ambitious DLC will introduce roughly 35 hours of new progression, rewarding veteran players with deep, meaningful development. The focus is now squarely on ground-level survival, making traversal, temperature control, and combat critical elements in the player’s journey.

Beyond the new map, Funcom continues to refine the experience with ongoing updates. A feature-packed Cosmetics Store has been introduced to Awakening, and players can look forward to a dedicated offline single-player mode arriving in November. Furthermore, the studio is pushing for full cross-play support in January of next year.

This expansion signals another significant step in the ongoing development of Dune: Awakening”>Dune: Awakening, confirming the studio’s commitment to expanding the world through 2027. It demonstrates a strategic pivot, focusing on building and supporting existing titles like Conan Exiles”>Conan Exiles alongside the ongoing evolution of its flagship survival MMO.
