E.M.O. reveals 4.75mm ultra-thin Altar II keyboard

Prepare to redefine your workspace, because the Electronic Materials Office has dropped a mechanical keyboard that doesn’t just look good—it redefines what’s possible in terms of thinness and functionality. Introducing the Altar II, an ultra-slim marvel poised to disrupt the peripherals market.

This isn’t just another keyboard; it’s a meticulously engineered piece of hardware built around a macOS-compatible 75% layout. The true genius lies in its physical design: measuring an astonishingly thin 4.75mm thick with just 1.8mm of key travel, the Altar II manages to pack serious performance into an impossibly sleek profile.

The foundation of this minimalist aesthetic is a unibody CNC-machined aluminium alloy chassis, providing both robust durability and a premium feel. But the design doesn’t stop at the shell. On the right side, EMO has smartly integrated practical features, including an integrated speaker and an M-Dial magnetic replaceable knob, allowing users to customize their input experience with ease.

Even the typing experience is refined. The keycaps feature proprietary ESPtype design, offering varied heights across different zones to optimize comfort for various typing styles. And sustainability is woven into the fabric of the device: these custom keycaps are crafted using REGEN polymer, derived from at least 50% recycled plastic.

Peering inside the slim frame reveals a sophisticated internal system designed for superior tactile feedback. Two layers of damping padding work in tandem with a Harmonic Synthesizer system, which utilizes resonant actuators to deliver crisp, satisfying responses with every keystroke.

Aesthetically, the Altar II glows subtly with red LED backlighting, capable of dynamically adjusting its brightness to adapt to ambient light. This attention to detail extends to power management: the keyboard boasts up to 30 days of wireless use, and a quick two-minute charge provides enough energy for up to two days of power.

The Altar II is officially hitting the market through a vibrant Kickstarter campaign launching on November 10th. Backers have access to tiered pricing options, ranging from $1 for early pre-orders to standard crowdfunding tiers, before the retail price settles at $349. EMO is targeting a shipping start in early summer 2027.
