FFXIV breaks Sephiroth glass after 13 years

Director and producer Naoki Yoshida recently stepped into the spotlight at Berlin’s Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival to unveil thrilling news: the upcoming expansion Evercold will dedicate its eight-player raid series squarely to Cloud and his companions, ushering in a monumental collaboration with the legendary saga of FF7.

Yoshida was joined by Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Revelation, to reveal the concept for the joint initiative, titled Beyond the Lifestream. While details remain tantalizingly hidden regarding specific characters, the sheer weight of the reveal suggests a monumental return. The presence of both Cloud and Sephiroth on screen during the announcement only raises the delightful possibility that they will feature prominently in this epic endeavor.

The foundation for this exciting raid is built on collaboration and legacy. Hamaguchi and Yoshida assured fans that the two creative teams are working in lockstep, drawing upon the deep well of FF7 history. Motomu Toriyama, a long-time Square Enix veteran and co-director of the FF7 remake, is lending his expertise to the raid’s narrative, supervised by Kazushige Nojima, the original writer of the legendary game.
