In April of this year, the DOT and FAA launched a unique recruitment campaign targeting video game enthusiasts, encouraging them to translate their expertise in flight simulators into vital roles in air traffic control. The results, however, have proven to be anything but simple. This outside-the-box strategy has yielded remarkable success. The agencies are reporting that their efforts met 94% of their hiring goal by tapping into this new demographic.

By recognizing the dedication and refined spatial reasoning inherent in high-level gaming, the DOT and FAA have successfully opened up a new pipeline for future air traffic professionals.
