Gears of War E-Day pushes CPU limits with Unreal Engine 5
Unreal Engine 5 is a visual powerhouse, but when you dive into the world of CPU performance, the narrative shifts dramatically. While the engine isn’t inherently a CPU hog, games built on its foundation can reveal startling differences in how various processors handle complex environments. We recently tested this phenomenon by focusing on Gears of War E-Day, and the results painted a picture of performance scaling that often gets overlooked in the AAA gaming landscape.
When running the game, we immediately noticed that the CPU utilization was consistently pegged between 80% and 90%, far higher than many other titles. More fascinating than the raw performance numbers, however, was the ability of the game to scale performance across different chips.
