Google Photos Shortens Recovery Window for Deleted Media
A recent adjustment to Google Photos’ data management system means users will have less time to recover accidentally deleted photos and videos. Google has implemented a change to the retention period for media stored in the trash, effectively cutting the window available for recovery in half.
Previously, photos and videos deleted from the Google Photos library remained in the trash for a period of 60 days, offering users ample time to recover anything mistakenly removed. This change tightens that timeline significantly.
Effective immediately, the time backed-up media remains in the bin is reduced to 30 days. This means that if a user deletes media by mistake, they will now have half as long to recover those files before they are permanently removed.
This update serves as a reminder for everyone using Google Photos to exercise extra caution when managing their library. The shift in policy emphasizes the importance of careful selection before deleting files, ensuring that cherished memories remain safely accessible.
