Heroes of the Storm gets its first new hero after six years
The world of Heroes of the Storm just got a whole lot more void-filled! Blizzard has officially announced the arrival of a new hero, Xal’atath, marking a significant expansion of the Nexus roster and setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in the game.
This isn’t just another addition; Xal’atath joins the ranks as the 91st hero to grace the Nexus, promising fresh gameplay and new strategic depth for the community. To celebrate this grand arrival, Blizzard is throwing a massive celebration for its fans, allowing them to earn exclusive rewards, including special Twitch drops, between September 28th and October 5th.
The celebration isn’t just about watching; it’s about rewarding engagement. Fans can accumulate rewards ranging from gold for watch time to rare Epic and Legendary loot chests, even unlocking an Epic Deadly Chaos Wolf at the eight-hour mark. It’s a fantastic way for the community to celebrate the game’s ongoing success.
But the real star of the show is the new assassin herself. Xal’atath brings a unique ranged playstyle, defined by mastering the forces of the void. Her ability kit is designed for dynamic, high-impact engagements, blending mobility with devastating void damage.
Her core ability, Void Volley, allows her to build up Soul Essence with basic attacks, which, when fully charged, unleashes a barrage of void orbs across a target area while she remains free to move.
Control is further exerted through Shadow Mark, where she can cast a large Void Orb to mark enemy Heroes. The Dark Heart then targets the impact point, detonating on any marked targets, adding a layer of tactical marking to team fights.
Mobility is key with Void Step, enabling quick blinks between three points in a triangular pattern, allowing Xal’atath to gain attack damage at each stop, giving her unparalleled positioning and escape options.
The ultimate expression of her power lies in her Heroic abilities. Void Eruption lets her channel a growing void orb to blind enemies before detonating in a wide area, and Void Convergence summons portals filled with relentless void minions, overwhelming the battlefield with void presence.
While some players opt for the direct purchase of the new hero at $7.99, Blizzard is planning to make Xal’atath available through gold later this year, tentatively scheduled for the end of November. This flexibility ensures that players can choose how they engage with the new content.
Beyond the new hero, Blizzard is continually releasing exciting updates and patch notes that keep the community buzzing. Heroes of the Storm continues to evolve, promising more surprises and strategic depth for everyone involved.
