iBuyPower Slate Gaming Desktop: Strong gaming value and extras
The iBuyPower Slate: Where Aesthetics Meet Aggressive Gaming Power
In the fiercely competitive mid-range desktop market, finding a machine that balances cutting-edge components with stunning aesthetics is the ultimate quest. Enter the iBuyPower Slate Gaming Desktop, a system that arrives with a formula that is undeniably attractive: an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070, an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D processor, and a commitment to high-end cooling and striking RGB design. Priced at $1,999.99, the Slate doesn’t just build a PC; it packages a seriously competitive gaming experience.
From the moment you look at it, the Slate makes a statement. It is unapologetically designed to be seen, featuring a full-view tempered glass side panel that showcases the internal hardware. Inside, a 360mm liquid cooler handles the heat with ease, complemented by a striking trio of RGB fans. The overall footprint is clean and modern, sitting firmly in the mid-tower territory with dimensions of 8.7 x 19.3 x 19.5 inches.
The internal aesthetic is carefully managed. The design features blacked-out components accented by RGB light strips running along the power supply and front panel, creating a sophisticated visual effect. While the internal lighting is fun, the system is managed through the Hyte Nexus application, which offers control over ambient lighting. It’s worth noting that while the visual customization is slick, the software focuses heavily on atmosphere rather than granular, per-component control, though it does manage the lighting for the keyboard and mouse beautifully.
Under the hood, the core components are powerful. The pairing of the Ryzen 7 7700X3D and the GeForce RTX 5070 provides phenomenal performance for modern titles. Testing in demanding games like Far Cry 6 showed the system easily outpacing rivals, delivering impressive frame rates. The focus on the X3D CPU architecture proved particularly effective in title-heavy scenarios, demonstrating remarkable stability and speed that put the Slate firmly in the realm of a standout gaming performer.
Beyond raw gaming muscle, the Slate proves to be highly capable for daily productivity and content creation. With 32GB of fast DDR5 memory and a speedy 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, the system handles demanding tasks with comfortable efficiency. While high-end Intel K-class chips might edge out the Slate in absolute multi-core benchmarks, for most users, the performance delta is negligible. It offers a highly capable platform for video editing and general computing.
The attention to peripherals elevates the entire package. The included mechanical keyboard features linear switches that offer a satisfying, predictable typing experience, complete with dynamic RGB lighting that can be adjusted via keyboard shortcuts. Similarly, the gaming mouse is well-designed, offering customizable DPI settings and extensive RGB modes, ensuring that the gaming experience extends smoothly from the monitor to the mousepad.
Ultimately, the iBuyPower Slate Gaming Desktop successfully nails the mid-tier gaming desktop formula. It delivers on visual appeal, pairs a powerful GPU with a strong CPU, and bundles premium peripherals that feel like they belong in a high-end setup. It’s a machine that prioritizes the gaming experience while offering a genuinely attractive, high-performance package for those looking to jump into the next generation of PC gaming.
