The semiconductor industry is undergoing a transformation, driven by massive capital investments and an unwavering commitment to domestic leadership. At the center of this revolution is Intel’s aggressive push to establish a comprehensive, leading-edge manufacturing ecosystem across the United States, signaling a strategic shift that pits national industrial ambition against global competition.

Intel recently unveiled significant milestones across its manufacturing landscape, focusing on scaling production, integrating cutting-edge tools, and strengthening the domestic supply chain. The ambitious timeline for its Arizona facility, Fab 62, is set to redefine the future of chip production.

Work is actively underway at Fab 62, where production tools are being installed. This facility is slated to become operational before the end of 2028, aiming for mass production capabilities. While specific node assignments remain under development, Fab 62 is positioned to handle advanced process technologies, potentially including the 18A and 14A nodes.

This expansion builds upon Intel’s existing footprint, including the ongoing progress at the Ohio One manufacturing complex in New Albany, Ohio. Construction has reached a major milestone, with structural work being completed, underscoring the commitment to expanding domestic semiconductor capacity.

Beyond capacity, Intel is embedding next-generation technology into its production lines. The company has successfully integrated High-NA EUV lithography into high-volume manufacturing, allowing it to produce advanced chips while pushing the boundaries of what is possible in semiconductor fabrication.

Intel’s strategy is not limited to fabrication; it encompasses the entire technological pipeline. Extensive investments continue in research and development, advanced packaging, and photomask production across the U.S. The company leverages its various sites—from Oregon’s R&D center for advanced logic and 3D interconnects to Arizona’s advanced packaging operations—to create a synergistic manufacturing hub.

Furthermore, the focus on the U.S. supply chain is deeply embedded in Intel’s operations. The company is establishing a vital domestic manufacturing base for complex multi-chiplet processors, utilizing advanced packaging methods in New Mexico. This focus is solidified by a commitment to fostering an American-made ecosystem, emphasizing that true technological advancement stems from robust domestic research and development.

The commitment to the domestic supply chain is demonstrated by the vast network of domestic partnerships. Intel‘s U.S. operations currently involve more than 4,500 suppliers across 49 states, with annual domestic expenditures exceeding $29 billion. This extensive domestic footprint underscores the necessity of fostering not just fabrication capacity, but comprehensive research, process development, and advanced supply chain capabilities to lead the future of technology.
