Introducing my first MMO character Harvey Randall
Every gamer has that first character—the one that defines a formative experience. For one person, that memory is tied to the sprawling world of World of Warcraft, and the starting point was a character named Leetman, a human rogue.
The journey to that first character wasn’t taken lightly. This adventure began when the creator, born around 2004-2006, managed to secure a subscription to WoW. The process involved some serious negotiation, as the early enthusiast apparently had to essentially beg their parents into granting access to the digital realm.
Once the account was secured, the enthusiasm for the game became life-changing. This was the moment the world of Azeroth opened up, promising endless quests and epic adventures for the young player.
While the excitement was undeniable, the in-game experience for Leetman was far from flawless. Despite the class choice, the fledgling rogue struggled with the intricacies of the game. There were no easy levels to master, and the early attempts to specialize in poisons felt more like a chore than a skill.
Instead of mastering the art of stealth, Leetman’s career was spent exploring the wilder corners of the game, finding joy in simply traversing landscapes like the Un’Goro Crater. Though the class didn’t shine brightly, the spirit of exploration was certainly alive.
Amidst the struggles of leveling, a small victory eventually materialized: Leetman managed to accumulate the gold necessary to acquire a mount. This achievement, though minor in the grand scheme of raiding and dungeons, felt like a huge accomplishment back in those early days, adding a swanky touch to the fledgling rogue’s identity.
The trajectory of Leetman’s existence within Azeroth was ultimately brief. As the game evolved, Leetman was eventually traded out for the more formidable Earthborn troll shaman during the dramatic shift of The Burning Crusade expansion.
Though the character was deleted from the game, the memory of Leetman remains. It stands as a cherished reminder of the very first steps into the massive, immersive world of World of Warcraft, a story of childhood curiosity and the enduring magic of early gaming.
