Jagex unveils new RuneScape projects at RuneFest
The world of RuneScape is gearing up for an exciting era, with Jagex unveiling a major multimedia push that promises to redefine the landscape of the game. During RuneFest 2026, the studio announced plans for a fourth RuneScape MMO built on the powerful Unreal Engine, titled RS4, alongside an animated series adaptation.
While the release date for the new MMO remains under wraps, the sheer ambition of the project has immediately captured the attention of the gaming community. To bring this vision to life, Jagex has partnered with content creators and media outlets, teaming up with YouTuber Charlie White (MoistCr1TiKaL) and Lyrical Media for the animated feature. Fans can now look forward to watching the unfolding saga as the project develops.
The anticipation for new content is currently being met with immediate action. In the interim, players can dive into fresh experiences right now with the launch of RuneScape Reignited, a new mode for RuneScape 3 that brings a completely fresh economy and features a Remastered Journey. This experience is available to all players free of charge until December 12th.
Further enriching the current ecosystem, a new plugin API is also set to be released later this month, following an early hands-on period that allowed the community to test new features.
Beyond the immediate releases, the long-term roadmap for the RuneScape universe is absolutely stacked, promising years of deep, engaging content. RuneScape 3 is slated for major story expansions starting in 2027. Players can expect three major story arcs, beginning with Hoard of Dragons in January, followed by City of Gnomes in the spring, and finally Secrets of Karamja in the autumn, all layered alongside an Agility rework.
The Old School RuneScape roadmap is equally robust, featuring a sequence of major updates spanning the year. Beginning October 20th, players will unlock the Fractured Archive, followed by epic quests like The Chosen Commander and The Dungeons of Gielinor in the winter. Spring brings the Golden Gates to Menaphos, while the summer features a rework of the Mining and Smithing skills, capped off by the Tower of Xorphoros in autumn.
Meanwhile, the spinoff title RuneScape: Dragonwilds is also receiving significant attention. The upcoming Luminance update in December will introduce new elements like the Prayer skill and Elves, setting the stage for the much-anticipated Blood Crystal Saga ahead of 2027. This saga promises monthly and quarterly updates, introducing new Hunter and Slayer skills, and console-compatible CurseForge modding support in 2027, ensuring that the Dragonwilds world will continue to evolve for years to come.
