Lost my tools So I wrote custom Chrome extensions

Most people approach technology with a simple preference: find a ready-made tool that solves a problem immediately, without requiring much effort. That was my initial stance when diving into the world of browser extensions.

However, this journey quickly turned into a lesson in digital paranoia. As I relied on a handful of extensions, I soon found myself questioning the security and trustworthiness of the tools in my browser. The realization dawned that relying entirely on external code meant trusting potentially malicious actors with access to my digital life.

Instead of simply migrating to a different, equally questionable tool, I decided to take control. I set out to build my own replacements, tools tailored exactly to my specific needs, ensuring complete ownership and security.

This led me down an unexpected path. I decided to leverage the power of artificial intelligence to accelerate this process. By utilizing Claude Code and a few detailed prompts, I found that building these custom extensions was far less intimidating than I had anticipated.

The process of building bespoke solutions using AI proved to be surprisingly smooth. What started as a defensive move against digital insecurity evolved into an exciting experiment in self-reliance, proving that with the right tools, even complex coding projects can be much easier than expected.
