Machinarium sequel finally arrives after 17 years
Amanita Design Brings the Robots Back for Machinarium 2
After seventeen years of waiting, the beloved point-and-click puzzle adventure series is getting a much-anticipated sequel: Machinarium 2. The studio Amanita Design has officially announced the return of Josef and Berta, promising players a fresh adventure that delves deeper into their mechanical world.
The story picks up immediately where the original game left off, throwing the protagonists into a new, hidden valley. Players will guide Josef and Berta as they navigate two distinct robot communities grappling with severe power shortages. Their quest will take them from the austere Elektrona monastery to the bustling city of Oilton, demanding clever puzzle-solving from the players.
What makes this sequel especially intriguing is a core mechanic introduced to enhance the gameplay: players gain the ability to freely swap between Josef and Berta, adding a dynamic layer to the interaction and puzzle-solving process.
The creative team behind the sequel is bringing a rich blend of nostalgia and maturity to the experience. CEO Jakub Dvorský described the decision to return to the series as intuitive, sensing that the robot world was finally ready to step back into the spotlight. Adding to this depth is the return of composer Tomáš Dvořák, known professionally as Floex, who will craft the new soundtrack. Dvořák is aiming for a score that is more melodic and mature, achieved through a focus on greater structural simplicity.
While the exact release date for Machinarium 2 remains under wraps, the game is already available for wishlisting on major platforms like Steam and GOG.
Meanwhile, the original game and other titles from the Amanita catalogue are currently seeing a special discount across storefronts until October 15th, offering a perfect opportunity for fans to revisit this delightful world.
