Meet Doctrine the new vampire hero for Overwatch

While there are no immediate plans for a full Overwatch series adaptation, Blizzard recently delivered a spectacular dose of character lore and cinematic excitement at BlizzCon. This celebration brought a new hero into the fold, promising a fresh and fascinating addition to the Overwatch universe: Doctrine.

Doctrine is a vampire-inspired support hero who is set to launch alongside the highly anticipated Overwatch Season 5 update on October 6th. As a survivor, Doctrine brings a unique blend of combat utility and healing capabilities to the battlefield. His core mechanics are designed to make him a crucial pivot for his team, utilizing his movement ability to trigger passive health regeneration, ensuring he stays agile and ready for action.

Beyond simple survivability, Doctrine’s combat prowess is defined by his hitscan weapon, which can efficiently heal allies while simultaneously dealing damage to enemies. Furthermore, his signature Infused ability offers tactical flexibility, allowing him to deliver additional healing either offensively or directly to his teammates, making him a true lifeline in intense confrontations.

The depth of Doctrine’s character is rooted in a dramatic past. His history is intertwined with the turmoil of the Omnic Crisis, an era that saw him lose his parents and assume the heavy responsibility of caring for his ailing brother. Driven by necessity, Doctrine pursued advanced studies in cybernetics and bioengineering, developing groundbreaking technology capable of reversing aging by draining life force. This pursuit led to his imprisonment in the high-security facility of Grímsvötn in Iceland.

It was only through the intervention of Doomfist and his allies that Doctrine was freed, allowing him to reclaim his youthful appearance and arm himself with his unique scepter and drones. This transformation marks the beginning of a new chapter for the hero, blending ancient lineage with cutting-edge bio-technology.

Fans will have a chance to dive into Doctrine’s world and test out his abilities early. Players can experience him through a limited-time test this weekend, getting a sneak peek before his official debut in the game this October. Blizzard’s commitment to delivering spectacular character introductions continues with Doctrine, ensuring that players have plenty of excitement before Season 5 arrives.
