Metro 2033 & Last Light: Free PS5/Xbox Upgrades
The world of post-apocalyptic Russia, as envisioned by Dmitry Glukhovsky, has found a devoted following in the Metro franchise. These first-person horror shooters, developed by 4A Games, successfully capture the bleak atmosphere and oppressive reality of the world they inhabit, making them a critically successful yet often underrated gaming staple.
Now, the team is preparing to bring this gritty saga into the next chapter with the highly anticipated sequel, Metro 2039, slated for release in February 2027. But before the main event, fans of the series get an immediate treat: the first two games in the franchise, Metro 2033 and Last Light, are receiving significant enhancements.
This is more than just a simple update; it’s a ‘next-gen’ treatment for the foundational games. The improvements will be rolled out for free, arriving on PC on October 22nd and current-gen consoles on October 29th.
While the updates are described as introducing a host of improvements rather than a full remaster or remake, the quality-of-life boost is substantial. These enhancements focus on delivering a richer, more immersive experience for players.
Key features of the upgrade include native support for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S applications, vastly improved 4K textures, enhanced animation fidelity, and higher-quality audio that brings the desolate environment to life. Players can also expect advanced visual and performance modes, such as 4K 60fps and upscaled 4K 120fps, along with better lighting, shadows, and particle effects.
For console players, the upgrade includes support for DualSense Adaptive Triggers, and specific features like PSSR support on the PS5 Pro. These changes, combined with general quality-of-life improvements, promise a much more cohesive and stunning experience across the Metro Redux duology.
