Monster Hunter Wilds Switch 2 demo releases next week

The journey of a major title like Monster Hunter is often a grueling one, and the transition of such a massive undertaking onto new hardware is no exception. Capcom has finally announced that the highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds will arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 during the first week of December, a feat that they have described as a “painstaking, and at times seemingly endless, process of making decisions and optimisations one by one.”

For those who have waited, the question immediately shifts from “when will it come?” to “how will it perform?” Given the demanding nature of the game, many speculated on how this epic hunt would translate to Nintendo’s handheld-hybrid system. But instead of letting doubts linger, Capcom has stepped up to provide transparency and allow potential players to experience the game firsthand.

To put the performance concerns to rest, the publisher is rolling out a free ‘Prologue Demo’ that Switch 2 owners can test out starting next week. This demo is the perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of the adventure before committing to the full experience.

The official announcement confirmed the demo will be available on October 19 PT / October 20 BST, giving players time to prepare for their first encounter with the world of Monster Hunter Wilds. Furthermore, the demo is designed to be an entry point, allowing users to experience the start of the adventure and carry their save data over to the full game once they are ready.

Beyond just the single-player experience, Capcom has confirmed that the demo will allow for local multiplayer play between Switch 2 consoles. This feature will let players hop in with friends to stress-test the multiplayer performance, providing a real-world look at how the game handles co-operative play on the new hardware.

It is worth noting that Capcom has a history of successfully porting many of its multi-platform titles to Nintendo’s Switch platforms. While the development of Monster Hunter Wilds on the Switch 2 has undoubtedly presented unique challenges, the established track record suggests that the team is well-equipped to deliver a polished and visually pleasing experience.

The full game is scheduled for release on the Switch 2 on December 4th. With the free demo rolling out just weeks prior, fans now have an exciting window to see if the Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds proves to be the epic, performant adventure everyone has been waiting for.
