Recently, MSI has unveiled exciting new performance optimizations within its Click BIOS X platform, introducing features designed to squeeze maximum efficiency out of AMD EXPO memory, ultimately delivering performance benefits typically associated only with specialized kits.
At the heart of this innovation are two key technologies: AMD EXPO Ultra Low Latency (EXPO ULL) support and the built-in High-Efficiency Mode. These features aim to dramatically reduce the time it takes for data to travel between the CPU and the RAM, translating directly into snappier gaming experiences without requiring users to manually dive into complex sub-timing adjustments.
When compatible modules are installed, MSI’s system automatically recognizes the potential for reduced latency. For those utilizing EXPO ULL-certified modules, the platform displays an “ULL” indicator, signaling that these specialized settings are ready to be utilized.
Testing on a high-end system equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and an MSI B850MPOWER chipset demonstrated the tangible impact of this technology. Standard EXPO 6000 MT/s memory operated with a base latency of 79.4ns. By switching to an EXPO ULL profile, the latency was significantly tightened down to 71.4ns—a reduction of over 8 nanoseconds.
But MSI didn’t stop there. For users running standard EXPO kits, the High-Efficiency Mode feature offers another powerful avenue for optimization. This mode includes four accessible presets: Tightest, Tighter, Balance, and Relax.
By engaging the “Tightest” preset on a standard module, users achieved an impressive latency reduction, dropping the performance metric from 79.4ns down to 71.6ns. This level of optimization yielded results comparable to dedicated EXPO ULL kits, proving that powerful gains are now accessible through simple BIOS configuration.
Even when layering High-Efficiency Mode onto an already active EXPO ULL profile, the system maintained momentum, slightly reducing latency from 71.4ns to 71.1ns. It’s a subtle edge, but it reinforces the idea that smart optimization can deliver incremental gains.
While these features promise smoother, faster gaming, MSI includes an important caveat: modifying memory timings inherently alters how the system operates. Users interested in exploring High-Efficiency Mode should be aware that changes to these settings may introduce instability depending on their specific hardware configuration. Furthermore, activating these advanced modes typically requires a BIOS update.
