Oblivion Remastered and Diablo 4 land on Xbox Switch 2 this fall
When talking about the next generation of gaming consoles, some partnerships are born from shared ambition. Microsoft played a significant role in championing the Switch 2 platform early on, ensuring that some of its biggest titles landed on the new console within the first year. We saw beloved franchises like Overwatch, Fallout 4, and Indiana Jones arrive on the platform.
The momentum continues as the console rolls out some heavy hitters. In the coming months, fans will get access to the Switch 2 versions of long-awaited classics: Oblivion Remastered and Diablo 4.
Oblivion Remastered is slated for release on August 11th, setting the stage for a deep dive into the dark history of The Elder Scrolls. Following that, in September, Diablo 4 will become available for the first time on the Switch 2. This move is expected to be a massive hit, capitalizing on the huge audience that Diablo 3 commanded when it launched on the original Switch.
The integration of these titles highlights a strategic focus on maximizing the platform’s potential. However, Microsoft’s commitment to Nintendo’s hardware has seen some shifts over time. While there was an initial leaning towards making exclusive games a core focus, new leadership at Xbox has steered the course, bringing back an emphasis on exclusive content.
This evolution doesn’t mean exclusivity is dead entirely; it simply means the focus has diversified. We still expect some multi-platform giants, such as series like Fallout, to continue their journey across various platforms.
As the year progresses, Microsoft will also extend its presence with another major release: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to arrive on the Switch 2. This completes a very strong and consistent slate of releases for the system.
Despite these exciting additions, the long-term strategy remains dynamic. While recent developments suggest some adjustments to future platform support commitments, the excitement around new titles continues to drive innovation in the gaming landscape.
