Onimusha: Way of the Sword a Capcom hit

Capcom has been riding a serious wave of success this year, demonstrating a knack for delivering hits across multiple genres. The momentum is fueled by recent, major releases and some exceptionally bold, risk-taking ventures that have paid off handsomely.

The star of the show has been Resident Evil Requiem, which has maintained its strong sales trajectory ever since its February release, proving that the horror franchise remains a powerhouse.

But the excitement didn’t stop there. Capcom also ventured into new territory with Pragmata, a brand-new IP that quickly became a surprise sensation. This debut game demonstrated the appetite for fresh content, quickly surpassing one million copies sold.

Adding another layer to this successful year was the revival of a long-dormant franchise: Onimusha. The series, long considered a classic, has seen a major resurgence with the launch of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This title, which marked the first full Onimusha game in two decades, has also achieved remarkable success, crossing the one-million-copy sales milestone in just days after its launch.

Unlike the older entries, which relied on slower pacing and fixed camera angles, Way of the Sword injects a faster, more modern action style while perfectly preserving the core themes of demon hunting that define the series. This revival is already positioning the game as a contender for the top spot in the franchise’s sales history, aiming to surpass the two million copies sold by Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny from 2002.

Capcom’s slate remains incredibly ambitious. While the year’s momentum continues, the company is not slowing down. Looking ahead, players can anticipate further massive releases, including Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen later in the year, offering veterans and newcomers alike a reason to jump back into the world. Furthermore, the focus is set firmly on the ongoing success of the Monster Hunter franchise, with massive expansions, such as the upcoming Wilds expansion, slated for 2027, promising even greater adventures for the faithful.
