PC Gamer voters pick the best RTS unit of all time
We’ve settled the age-old debate: what truly reigns supreme in the realm of Real-Time Strategy? After a month-long, fiercely contested voting marathon, the ultimate victor in the quest for the greatest RTS unit of all time has been crowned.
The battle was epic, pitting the deeply organized religion of the Age of Empires’ Priest against the indomitable might of the Command and Conquer: Red Alert’s Mammoth Tank. It was a clash between structured order and raw, unstoppable war machinery, providing fans with a front-row seat to a legendary rivalry.
The journey to the final was anything but simple. The Priest proved to be an incredibly formidable force throughout the tournament, successfully dominating its rivals. It managed to secure a commanding 80% of the votes in the first round against Total Annihilation’s Peewee, setting an early benchmark for dominance.
Yet, the story of the tournament was defined by the sheer resilience of the Mammoth Tank. Though the Priest held initial momentum, the Mammoth Tank demonstrated exceptional staying power. In the quarterfinals, the massive vehicle faced off against the beloved underdog Peon, while the Priest contended with the Dolphin, showing that both units navigated intense competitive pressure successfully.
The semifinals brought the two titans face-to-face, with both units surviving grueling matchups against massive spaceships. Ultimately, the results came down to the final tally.
With a decisive 52% of the vote, the Mammoth Tank emerged as the undisputed champion, claiming the title for the greatest RTS unit of all time. While the Priest had established incredible strength, the Mammoth Tank’s sheer, unyielding presence proved to be the deciding factor in this definitive contest.
The victory marks a fascinating conclusion to a highly competitive event, leaving fans energized and ready to appreciate the enduring legacy of both these iconic units.
