PS5 update expands Top 10 list to more regions

Sony is making it official: the PlayStation 5 is finally giving us a peek into the gaming zeitgeist. Through a recent system firmware update, the console maker has introduced a new widget in the Welcome Hub that allows users to see the top 10 most-played PlayStation 5 games in their region—a level of transparency console makers had previously held back.

This exciting feature, initially rolled out in regions like the US, has expanded its reach, bringing this insight to additional global audiences. Beyond just game popularity, the recent update, version 26.06-14.00.00, delivered several other refinements. Users now have an optional ‘speaker indicator’ for voice chat, and the toggle for ‘Enhanced PSSR Image Quality’ on the PS5 Pro is now enabled by default.

The real star, however, is the expansion of the ‘Community Activity widget.’ This new interface allows players outside of the US to view trending games and an overall ‘top 10 most-played’ list for the week, offering a genuine look at what their gaming community is obsessed with.

Curiously, Sony made a subtle but interesting decision when designing this new list. Unlike previous implementations, the widget no longer displays the total number of players. Instead, it presents a simple, linear numbered list. While this means concrete player statistics are absent, the focus shifts entirely to the ranked hierarchy of gaming activity.

For instance, the top ten list for the United Kingdom currently features a diverse lineup that highlights a mix of massive multiplayer hits and cinematic adventures. The current rankings include:

  1. Fortnite
  2. Minecraft
  3. GTA V (PS5 Version)
  4. Rainbow Six: Siege
  5. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  6. Marvel Rivals
  7. SKATE
  8. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
  9. Marvel’s Wolverine
  10. Battlefield 6

While this new Welcome Hub widget is a welcome addition, it serves more as a friendly ‘welcome’ feature than a comprehensive statistical analysis. It remains to be seen how Sony plans to evolve this tool over the coming months and years, but for now, it provides a fun, easily digestible snapshot of what players are currently enjoying on the PlayStation platform.
