Ryzen 7 7800X3D Review: The Previous Gaming King Still Holds Up
8.5/10 — AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (2023)
Pros
- Excellent gaming performance
- Still widely recommended
- Efficient
Cons
- Superseded by the 9800X3D
The Ryzen 7 7800X3D launched on 6 April 2023 at $449 as an 8-core, 16-thread AM5 chip with AMD’s 3D V-Cache.
What works
It remains on Tom’s Hardware’s list of official recommendations for the best gaming CPU, and it delivers excellent gaming performance for its age.
Where it falters
The 9800X3D has since taken its place at the top, so it makes sense mainly when it is clearly cheaper.
Verdict
Still a great gaming chip, when the price is right.
