Ryzen 7 9850X3D Review: A Small Step Up for the Gaming Crown
9/10 — AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D (2026)
Pros
- Fastest gaming CPU
- Higher boost clock than the 9800X3D
- Same AM5 socket
Cons
- Only a small gain over the 9800X3D
- Costs more
The Ryzen 7 9850X3D launched on 29 January 2026 as an 8-core, 16-thread AM5 chip with 96MB of L3 cache, a 5.6GHz boost clock and a 120W TDP.
What works
It is described as technically the fastest gaming processor on the market, with higher clocks than the 9800X3D.
Where it falters
Its lead over the 9800X3D is small, about 3% on average in one guide, so the cheaper chip is usually the better buy.
Verdict
The fastest, but only just. Buy it if the price gap is small.
