Ryzen 9 9950X3D Review: The Do-It-All Chip for Gaming and Work
8.5/10 — AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D (2025)
Pros
- 16 cores and 128MB of cache
- Strong for gaming and work
- Fast boost clocks
Cons
- Expensive
- No big gaming gain over cheaper X3D chips
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D launched on 12 March 2025 at $699, with 16 cores, 32 threads, 128MB of L3 cache, a 5.7GHz boost clock and a 170W TDP.
What works
It is the chip for people who both game and do heavy creative or work tasks, with plenty of cores and the cache that helps games.
Where it falters
It costs a lot and offers little gaming gain over the 8-core X3D chips, so pure gamers are paying for cores they won’t use. It also runs hotter, with a 170W TDP.
Verdict
Excellent for mixed use, but unnecessary for gaming alone.
