For fans of intense, sprawling first-person shooters, a name is emerging that promises to redefine the genre: Selaco. Built on the foundation of the legendary Doom engine and steeped in the atmosphere of classics like FEAR, Half-Life, and System Shock, Selaco isn’t just a game—it’s a dizzyingly ambitious sci-fi epic where you fight your way through a mercenary incursion of a colossal, city-sized space station, the last remaining home for humanity.

Launched into Steam early access in 2024, the first chapter alone is packed with action, showcasing the scope of the chaos. But the studio behind the project, Altered Orbit Studios, is clearly ready to unleash the full potential of this world, preparing a massive update that promises to transform the experience entirely.

Described by the developers as an absolute behemoth, the planned evolution of Selaco: The Machines of War is set to double the gameplay length and introduce a vast array of new features. This evolution centers around the highly anticipated second chapter, which is slated to deliver 19 new campaign maps, potentially adding between six and eight hours of fresh content to explore.

Beyond the sheer volume of new levels, this update introduces new narrative depth, including further story elements and a voice for the protagonist. Players will also face a relentless threat: an unstoppable machine that relentlessly hunts them down, adding a layer of persistent, terrifying enemy presence.

The new arsenal promises to be just as chaotic as the environment itself. Players can expect to wield formidable weaponry, including a minigun and a heavy machine gun that fires literal explosions. Adding tactical depth, the update also introduces deployable weapons like mini-turrets and sentinel drones, alongside a brand-new heavy ordnance system, allowing players to throw large, disposable weapons across the battlefield in a style reminiscent of Gears of War.

But the changes aren’t just about firepower; Altered Orbit is fundamentally reworking the core mechanics to enhance player agency. The signature FEAR-inspired enemy AI is being rewritten almost entirely from scratch, designed to facilitate smarter tactics and more dynamic decision-making. Furthermore, a new “rally” system and NPC area patrolling are being introduced, giving players greater control over when and how combat ignites.

The overhaul extends to the first chapter itself, which is receiving improvements to key set pieces and fresh surprises. To make the massive environment feel even more alive, the update includes a new lighting system, a spectacular particle system for combat, and dramatically improved navigation through the massive, maze-like levels.

To complete the sensory experience, expect new voice lines to make enemy communication feel more lifelike, better controls, entirely new music, and a more immersive soundscape. It sounds like Altered Orbit is determined to cook with rocket fuel, and based on the sheer scale of these enhancements, the resulting experience is poised to be an absolute spectacle.

Selaco: The Machines of War is scheduled to arrive on November 13th. While the magnitude of the changes means that old saves will no longer be compatible, players will have the option to jump directly into the action of Chapter 2 immediately, ensuring that the journey into the heart of the space station begins right away.
