Microsoft Gives Its Entry-Level Devices a Major Upgrade with Snapdragon Power

Microsoft is shaking up the low-end computing market, announcing a major refresh for its entry-level devices: the 13-inch Surface Laptop and the 12-inch Surface Pro. These devices are getting a significant boost, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Plus processor, which includes a new 80 TOPS Neural Processing Unit (NPU), marking a substantial leap from previous generations.

The excitement builds as these new systems are set to launch on October 13, coinciding with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit. While these devices are stepping up the performance game, Microsoft has also made sure the new hardware is accompanied by tangible improvements for users, pushing performance, efficiency, and creative tools to new heights.

The performance gains are impressive. Compared to previous Snapdragon X Plus processors, the new systems promise a range of upgrades. Users can expect up to 17% faster performance in demanding Microsoft Office workloads, 18% better battery efficiency, and significantly faster graphics processing. Perhaps most exciting is the AI capability: the new NPU allows for up to 95% faster AI inferencing, setting a new benchmark for on-device intelligence.

Beyond raw speed, the visual experience has also been refined. Both the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro feature a sleek new black finish and display technology that is 25% brighter than their predecessors, making visual content more vibrant and clear than ever before.

The Surface Pro, in particular, introduces new tools for creators with the debut of Ink Canvas, a brand-new sketching and annotating application built for Windows 11. This tool is preinstalled on the tablet and accessible across the Microsoft Store for other supported devices, opening up powerful new ways to interact with digital content.

For enterprise users, the Surface Pro also gains optional 5G connectivity. Meanwhile, the hardware package is rounded out by a fantastic new peripheral: the Surface Mouse. This device introduces haptic feedback, a feature previously seen only on select Surface notebooks. The mouse is designed for ambidextrous use, connects via Bluetooth 6.0, and comes in both black and platinum colors.

This new Surface Mouse, priced at $79.99, integrates advanced haptic responses, allowing users to feel subtle feedback when interacting with the system. It pairs seamlessly with modern operating system features and offers a sleek, tactile experience that complements the powerful new hardware.
