Steam leak reveals early achievements for in-development games

Valve, the behemoth behind the Steam ecosystem, has recently faced yet another instance of this data seepage. Just days after the massive 12TB Steam depot leak resurfaced a decade ago, a separate incident briefly exposed private achievement lists for a wide array of games currently in development or still months away from release.
The mechanism behind this recent exposure appears to stem from a temporary accessibility issue within the Steam API. This loophole allowed certain private achievement data to become temporarily visible, prompting specialized tracking sites to automatically scrape and publish the information.
The resulting list featured titles that were already announced, such as Persona 6, Judas, Kingdom Hearts 4, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Beyond these major titles, the leak also included achievements for multiple unnamed projects, identified only by their AppID.
The site owner tracking this data noted the unusual nature of the exposure. “It seems like a possible screw up on Valve’s end,” the source commented. “Achievements that should remain private are accessible through the API right now, and that’s why they got scanned into the site.”
This latest incident highlights the inherent tension between platform management and public curiosity. While these leaks certainly tantalize the gaming community with early glimpses, it comes with a caveat: because many of these titles are still deep in the development cycle, any achievement lists seen today are likely placeholders or incomplete. The data may change as development progresses.
The timing only adds to the awkwardness for Valve. Having experienced significant data leaks, this fresh exposure underscores the delicate balance between protecting proprietary information and engaging the passionate fanbase that relies on anticipation and mystery.
