Stellar Blade director dreams of directing Bayonetta
The digital world is buzzing with crossover dreams, and when games collide, the potential for pure fantasy is limitless. One such intriguing possibility is brewing between the high-octane world of Stellar Blade and the legendary, stylish universe of Bayonetta.
As the highly anticipated Stellar Blade prepares for its journey to the Nintendo Switch 2, fans are already speculating about the ultimate cosmetic dream: a crossover skin channeling the iconic heroine of PlatinumGames’ celebrated franchise, Bayonetta. This isn’t just about aesthetics; it touches on the deep creative connection between the studios involved.
The conversation around this potential collaboration came to the forefront when PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inana and ShiftUp CEO Kim Hyung-tae sat down to discuss the upcoming features of Stellar Blade. In the discussion, Kim revealed his profound reverence for the Bayonetta series, placing it among his top three favorite games of all time. He expressed a heartfelt wish for the franchise to continue, even jokingly wishing for “Bayonetta 10!”
This passion for the series is reflected in the history of the franchise itself. Creator Hideki Kamiya had previously voiced a desire to create a full saga of nine Bayonetta entries, though his eventual departure from PlatinumGames left the fate of the franchise in a curious state. This history adds an extra layer of intrigue to the potential for future collaborations.
Beyond a simple costume, the creative potential extends much further. Kim expressed an earnest desire to move beyond a mere crossover, stating that if PlatinumGames provided him with the opportunity, he would love to design the characters for the next Bayonetta game. He even jokingly suggested that if PlatinumGames created a desk for him, he would come in daily to work on it.
While Stellar Blade and Bayonetta possess distinct gameplay mechanics, a shared DNA exists between the two worlds. Given the genuine affection for the series, the idea of ShiftUp and PlatinumGames developing a fourth entry could prove incredibly compelling. Ultimately, the decision rests with SEGA, who own the intellectual property, but the seeds of such a creative pairing are certainly being sown.
