  • Forget this GTA 6 stuff, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 just got a hot new update

Some classics just refuse to retire. While the gaming world chases the next big title, developers have quietly been ensuring that some of the most beloved RPGs continue to evolve, offering players not just new content, but significant quality-of-life upgrades. Beamdog has just dropped a major 2.7 patch for the venerable Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale series, and it’s a true treat for long-time fans.

This update brings massive improvements to the Enhanced Editions of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition. These fixes focus heavily on seamless integration, modern performance, and expanding accessibility, proving that these timeless adventures are far from finished.

One of the most welcome changes involves cloud saving functionality. The patch makes managing Steam cloud saves much more intuitive. Previously, players had to dig into the gameplay menu for settings, but now control over Steam Cloud Saves for all three titles is directly managed through the Steam client. This streamlined approach ensures that cloud synchronization works exactly how it should, bringing stability and clarity to save management.

Furthermore, the patch brings exciting new hardware compatibility. The games now feature native support for Apple Silicon. This means players on Mac devices can experience significantly faster launch times, enhanced overall performance, and improved rendering speeds. For those using laptops, this also translates into lower power consumption while gaming, promising longer battery life without sacrificing graphical fidelity.

Beyond the technical enhancements, Beamdog has expanded global reach with a substantial addition of new localizations. Players now have access to community-translated languages for various campaigns, including Chinese (Simplified), Korean, and Russian for Baldur’s Gate: SoD; Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, and Ukrainian for Baldur’s Gate II; and Hungarian and Japanese for Icewind Dale.

The improvements also extend deep into the mobile experience. Updates have fixed numerous issues across iOS and Android platforms, including major improvements to the mobile keyboard functionality, better UI scaling on foldable devices, and fixes related to character export and DLC display in the Android ecosystem, ensuring a smoother experience regardless of the device.

These are more than just bug fixes; they are a testament to the continued care given to these foundational titles. By focusing on modernizing the technical foundation while embracing community contributions for localization and mobile accessibility, Beamdog has successfully ensured that the legacy of Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale remains vibrant, accessible, and truly ready for any generation.
