The Witcher 4 launches in 2028

CD Projekt Red is clearly running a marathon, not a sprint. After a half-decade pause following the release of Cyberpunk 2077, the studio is gearing up for an unprecedented release schedule, promising fans back-to-back titles over the next few years.

The current focus is split between enriching the beloved world of The Witcher and launching their most ambitious project yet. Fans can anticipate the expansion Songs of the Past, slated for release in 2027, which will delve deeper into the lore and narrative of the franchise.

But the anticipation doesn’t end there. CDPR has also confirmed that their magnum opus, The Witcher 4, is slated to follow in 2028. This next installment is being heralded internally as “our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date”, setting the stage for what promises to be a truly monumental experience.

The roadmap suggests that the narrative and world-building efforts are in full swing, with the expansion serving as a vital bridge connecting the lore, while the main game promises to expand the very boundaries of the Witcher universe.

Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski recently took to social channels to share a glimpse of the upcoming content, inviting the community to explore the dark story and new content waiting within Songs of the Past. He also hinted at the scale of the upcoming Witcher 4, emphasizing the massive scope the team is tackling.

The proximity of these major releases naturally raises questions about the studio’s capacity and delivery schedule. Whether CD Projekt Red can manage the ambitious task of delivering multiple, high-quality, bug-free titles in quick succession remains to be seen. For now, the industry is holding its breath, eagerly awaiting the arrival of these highly anticipated Witcher adventures.
