UK buyers brace for Switch 2 price jump
The gaming landscape is always in motion, but sometimes the biggest shift is felt in the wallet. For Nintendo fans, the latest iteration of their beloved console, the Switch 2, is about to see some welcome adjustments, adding a new layer of reality to the excitement surrounding the hardware.
Following earlier announcements regarding the console’s pricing in the United States, Nintendo has now confirmed that consumers in the UK and Ireland will also see price increases. This move brings the Switch 2 into regional pricing alignment, ensuring that the new generation of gaming hardware is accessible across the continent.
Starting in September, the base Switch 2 model will be priced at £419.99 in the UK, representing a modest £24 increase from the previous rate. Similarly, in Ireland, the Euro price is set at €499.99.
This new pricing applies specifically to the standard Switch 2 console without any included game. Interestingly, this base price shifts the value proposition of bundled deals. Previously, the Switch 2 plus the popular Mario Kart World bundle was available for £429.99, meaning the added cost of the game is now noticeably higher than the cost of the console itself.
Despite the recent price adjustments, Nintendo has managed to keep the Switch 2’s overall cost relatively close to its original Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price. This success is especially noteworthy when comparing the hardware to its competitors. While the Switch 2 has less internal storage and RAM capacity than powerhouse systems like the Xbox Series X/S or the PlayStation 5, Nintendo has navigated rising component costs effectively.
The financial context is telling. Both Xbox and PlayStation consoles have seen substantial price hikes since their day-one launches, often costing hundreds of pounds more than they did at release. In contrast, the Switch 2, while adjusting its price, remains positioned as a surprisingly palatable entry point into the next generation of gaming hardware.
