The world of The Witcher 3 Remastered just got a serious upgrade for those who love custom aesthetics. Players are now able to transmog armor and swords, allowing Geralt to mix and match the gear he equips with newfound freedom and flair.

This feature lets you swap out the appearance of your existing armor and weapons, turning mundane gear into bespoke masterpieces. But this isn’t an easy button; unlocking this new mechanic requires a bit of adventure and delving into the lore of the game’s master craftsmen.

To access this cosmetic customization, players must first unlock the talents of two legendary smiths. For armor, the journey takes you to Crow’s Perch, where you will work with Yoana. To transmog swords, the quest leads you to Novigrad, where you will negotiate with Éibhear Hattori.

Unlocking these capabilities isn’t automatic. It requires completing specific quests to earn the respect of the artisans. For Yoana, this involves speaking with Fergus Graem, the dwarf armorer at Crow’s Perch, and embarking on a journey to recover essential blacksmith tools in Undvik in Skellige.

Meanwhile, mastering the art of swords requires a different questline. To unlock Hattori as a viable transmog option, you must interact with him in his shop in Novigrad, northwest of Glory Gate, and complete his storyline, including the task of ‘Of Swords and Dumplings’.

Once both Yoana and Hattori have been unlocked, the customization process becomes simple. Players can then access the “reforge” tab when purchasing or crafting with them, adding a layer of personal style to Geralt’s inventory.

It is worth noting a few details about this system. Transmog armor will always display the same color as its base item, offering a cohesive visual experience. Furthermore, the new skins are unlocked only when placed into Geralt’s inventory, meaning you hold onto your acquired looks.

While this feature offers great cosmetic freedom, it’s important for players to keep in mind that this is not a retrospective system. For those aiming for endgame saves, acquiring all the desired armor pieces may still be necessary, or the items must be moved from your stash into your inventory to unlock their skins.

Even masters like Lazare Lafargue in the Blood and Wine DLC are exempt from this new transmog system, leaving the freedom to customize armor and weapons to the rest of the world.
