As part of the latest update to the GPU Tweak III, Asus has introduced an intelligent auto-shutdown feature. This system is designed to safeguard expensive graphics cards by automatically powering down the entire system if it detects persistently high current levels flowing through the power cables. Essentially, it turns passive warnings into active intervention, offering a practical safeguard for owners of high-end hardware.
This new functionality leverages the Power Detector+ hardware, expanding its capabilities beyond simple warnings. Instead of just alerting the user that current levels are exceeding safe limits, the system now takes active measures to shut down the PC, mitigating potential physical damage from faulty or overloaded 12V-2×6 power cables.
To fine-tune this protective measure, users have the flexibility to configure the shutdown duration, allowing them to set parameters ranging from one to five minutes, depending on the severity of the detected anomaly.
The system is calibrated around specific current thresholds. By default, the monitoring system is locked at 12.5A. However, for users employing the specialized ROG Equalizer cable, the threshold is automatically adjusted to 18A, offering an even more sensitive level of protection where it is most needed.
This powerful new monitoring system is specifically compatible with select high-performance cards equipped with Power Detector+ hardware. This includes models such as the ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090, the ROG Astral LC GeForce RTX 5090, the ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5080, and the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090.
