CD Projekt: Never considered charging Witcher 3 owners for the remaster

When the team explored deeper into the development of the Songs of the Past expansion, they began questioning how the game felt in relation to its age, realizing it needed a modernization.
“It was never a question we asked ourselves,” Nowakowski explained. “We were going deeper into the development of Songs of the Past with Fool’s Theory, and we started chatting: ‘Why don’t we make the game more modern? Everything felt like it was developed 10 years ago. Because it was developed more than 10 years ago.’” This philosophy led them to realize that a complete remaster was the natural next step for the players.
This vision extended to offering the update to existing owners. CD Projekt decided to gift the remaster to those who already own the original game, ensuring that fans receive a modernized experience without needing an additional purchase. This approach is particularly generous, as the remaster will seamlessly include the beloved Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions.
The resulting remaster is set to arrive on September 29th, replacing the previous The Witcher 3: Complete Edition on digital storefronts.
