Witcher 3 Remaster and Songs of the Past announced
The world of The Witcher 3 just got a massive upgrade, and it seems CD Projekt Red decided to throw a double celebration. At the recent Gamescom Opening Night Live, the studio didn’t just tease exciting new content; they unveiled a spectacular free remaster of the original game alongside the promise of a brand-new story expansion.
For those of us who still cherish Geralt’s journey, this news is pure gold. CD Projekt Red is giving players a chance to revisit the beloved world with a fresh coat of polish, bringing the masterpiece to PC, PS5, and Xbox consoles for free.
But the enhancements go far beyond simple visual tweaks. The remaster is a complete overhaul, featuring a completely revamped skill tree, significantly upgraded monster AI, brand-new combat finishers, updated Witcher Sign effects, and smoother traversal mechanics—even tackling the infamous issue of horse rising with a much-needed refinement.
Graphically, the game has been refined to look closer to the high-fidelity vision seen in the original E3 2014 demo, proving that the game doesn’t just look good, it feels even better.
The best part for existing fans is the free bonus content. Owners of the base game on current-gen platforms will receive the remaster as a free upgrade, available starting September 29th. Furthermore, if you own the original game but have missed the expansions, you’ll also get Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine included at no extra cost.
