Intel cancels 12Xe APU option for Nova Lake-S desktop
Intel is busy laying the groundwork for its next major desktop CPU launch, the Nova Lake architecture, but whispers from the enthusiast community suggest that the path to a specific high-core count integrated graphics offering has taken a detour. While the road ahead is filled with speculation, the underlying shift in Intel’s strategy—aiming to deliver competitive performance against rivals like AMD—is what truly matters.
Early discussions pointed toward a potential Nova Lake-S SKU featuring 12 Xe3P graphics cores, suggesting a tempting, inexpensive onramp to a gaming desktop without needing a discrete GPU. This concept, however, appears to have been shelved. Instead of pursuing this specific design, Intel is reportedly planning to resurrect and refine these ambitions with the upcoming Razor Lake generation.
What does this shift mean for integrated graphics? The original design for the 12 Xe3P model reportedly required a substantial 65W of dedicated power to fuel the integrated graphics, necessitating a complex dual-phase VCCGT system on the motherboard.
