I’m currently holding my breath for the next big gaming expansion, but if I had to pick one, I’d be looking forward to an expansion for a game from 2015 more than any new release. The upcoming add-on for The Witcher 3, Songs of the Past, promises a deep dive into a new region and an even richer exploration of the enigmatic bard, Dandelion.

The anticipation for this DLC was already building, and it was well-demonstrated at Gamescom, where Joshua Wolens got an early look and declared that the material looked genuinely captivating. While we wait for the full release next year, the glimpse we received has set a high bar for what CD Projekt Red can deliver.

The gaming conversation extends far beyond massive RPGs and epic quests. This enthusiasm is a reflection of the broader community, which thrives on shared stories, creative vision, and collaborative experiences. This sentiment is perfectly mirrored in the events planned for PAX Australia, an upcoming three-day gathering that promises a unique mix of behind-the-scenes access and deep dives into storytelling.

The PAX Australia schedule is packed with engaging opportunities for fans. Attendees will get exclusive behind-closed-doors live demos of Songs of the Past and a panel discussion featuring members of CD Projekt and the DLC developer, Fool’s Theory.

Beyond the major game reveals, the event focuses heavily on the art of narrative across various mediums. Storytime sessions are planned with World of Warcraft executive producer Holly Longdale, while fantasy author Isobelle Carmody and composer Mick Gordon will also be in attendance, offering fresh perspectives on the world of gaming.

The tabletop gaming scene is equally vibrant. Attendees can explore the art of storytelling through discussions with Jasmine ‘ThatBronzeGirl’ Bhullar, Dungeon Master of the official Dungeons & Dragons liveplay series, and Dimension 20’s Ify Nwadiwe. They will also participate in a D&D one-shot alongside Deerstalker Pictures, delving into the fundamentals of collaborative world-building and imaginative play.

These events showcase how deeply gaming touches upon creative expression, whether it’s mastering complex game mechanics or crafting compelling narratives at the tabletop. The PAX Australia experience is set to be a celebration of all things imaginative, from digital worlds to shared stories.
