Two mods make DLSS 5 playable without Nvidia


The promise of AI-driven upscaling technology, epitomized by NVIDIA‘s DLSS, has long been a cornerstone for gamers seeking high frame rates without sacrificing visual fidelity. But as the next generation of graphics cards arrives, the narrative shifts from pure performance gains to a stark reality check. When performance tests were conducted on the entire RTX 50 series, the results offered a paradoxical and sobering glimpse into the challenges facing cutting-edge ray tracing and upscaling solutions.

Recently, a deep dive into the performance metrics of the RTX 50 series revealed a significant performance dip when running the new DLSS 5 technology. These benchmarks were conducted under specific conditions, deliberately excluding frame generation to isolate the raw capabilities of the hardware.

The figures emerging from the testing were certainly challenging. For the flagship RTX 5090, the experience was a notable decline. At 4K resolution, the card saw its frame rate plummet from an impressive 192 FPS down to just 76 FPS. This drop highlights a tension between achieving high fidelity and maintaining smooth, playable frame rates in demanding scenarios.

The issue was echoed across the lineup. Even mid-to-high-tier cards experienced noticeable performance regressions. The RTX 5060 Ti, for example, faced a substantial drop when tested at 1440p. Its performance fell from 129 FPS to a mere 46 FPS under the same conditions.

These numbers suggest that while DLSS continues to be a powerful tool for image quality, the integration with the new architecture presents new performance hurdles that modders are actively exploring. The quest for flawless upscaling continues, prompting an intense focus on how these powerful new GPUs can deliver peak performance across all resolutions and settings.
