G.Skill EXPO ULL RAM drops for Ryzen CPUs with new subtimings
G.Skill, a heavyweight in the high-performance memory market, has just dropped some exciting news for AMD enthusiasts, introducing the Flare X5X series of DDR5 memory kits. This new line is built on AMD’s EXPO ULL (Ultra Low Latency) technology, promising optimized performance for Ryzen processors.
The goal of EXPO ULL is to maximize speed and responsiveness, and G.Skill has leveraged this technology to fine-tune memory subtimings, ensuring that users get the absolute best performance out of their DDR5 DIMMs, especially when paired with powerful AMD chips, particularly those that do not utilize 3D V-Cache.
The initial launch of the Flare X5X line will focus on the highly desirable DDR5-6000 speed, which many consider the sweet spot for modern Ryzen CPUs. The series debuts with a 32GB kit, split into two 16GB modules, establishing a strong foundation for system builders looking for speed and efficiency.
While the core memory speed is DDR5-6000, the specific timing configuration for the Flare X5X is set at 36-36-36-96 at a 1.35V operating voltage. Although this results in specific memory timings, the focus is less on the raw numbers and more on the optimized latency provided by the EXPO ULL protocol.
It is worth noting that G.Skill offers a wide range of DDR5-6000 kits across its popular Trident, Ripjaws, and Flare lineups, catering to various processor types. The Flare series has historically been the go-to choice for AMD platforms, and the Flare X5X continues this tradition.
Although the Flare X5X‘s timings are consistent with its predecessor, the overall EXPO ULL technology allows for further optimizations. G.Skill also provides other highly tuned variants, offering customized timing profiles like 26-36-36-32, 28-36-36-32, and 30-38-38-32 at slightly adjusted voltages, demonstrating their commitment to tailored performance.
The market context for this launch is also relevant. When AMD first introduced EXPO ULL, chipmakers promised that the memory would be priced similarly to standard EXPO kits. However, global memory shortages and inventory fluctuations led to significant price differences. Fortunately, pricing for EXPO ULL kits has recently stabilized, aligning with the expectations set by AMD.
While G.Skill has not released an official price tag for the Flare X5X DDR5-6000 C36 32GB kit, industry watchers estimate the price could land around $509.99, positioning it as a premium, high-performance option. G.Skill plans to roll out the Flare X5X series in phases to manage supply and availability across different regions, ensuring that this cutting-edge memory is soon accessible at major U.S. retailers.
