The company recently announced that it will be retiring the title of Fellow from its top scientists, researchers, and developers, replacing it with the designation of Distinguished Engineer.

This evolution reflects Intel’s ambition to establish a new standard for technical leadership that goes beyond pure academic achievement, demanding a blend of deep domain expertise, strategic vision, creative innovation, and measurable tactical progress.

Historically, the Fellow title held immense weight. In the semiconductor world, the Fellow rank often carried status equivalent to a Vice President or Senior Vice President, granting top architects and physicists the authority to shape company strategy without assuming formal people management roles.
