For years, the world of Windows on Arm has been defined by Snapdragon processors and Adreno CPUs. It was a landscape built around efficiency, not raw graphical power. But that landscape is poised for a seismic shift, thanks to the introduction of Nvidia’s RTX Spark architecture.

Nvidia recently announced the RTX Spark processor—an Arm-based chip promising serious GPU performance. This move has ignited a fervent debate: can these powerful mobile processors truly redefine gaming on the Windows on Arm platform?

The theory is now being tested in the real world, and developers have managed to push the boundaries. A researcher successfully got an RTX 4060 running on Windows on Arm by utilizing a specific driver derived from the “RTX Spark laptop driver.” This achievement suggests a tangible pathway for integrating high-end Nvidia graphics with the Arm ecosystem.

While this is a significant technical feat, the journey wasn’t without its bumps. The specific driver used was an older version, which reportedly does not support DGX Spark processors, highlighting that the path to full integration requires further refinement in software and hardware coordination.

Testing the performance revealed that while the setup worked—allowing games like Black Myth: Wukong to run—the results were modest. The frame rates were significantly lower than what was achieved with standard desktop installations, demonstrating that software optimization remains a challenge when working outside official driver channels.

The integration also involves unique hardware constraints. The test utilized a Huawei Kunpeng 920 processor, which is optimized for server work rather than peak gaming performance, adding another layer of complexity to evaluating true GPU potential on Arm systems.

Despite these current limitations, the fact that an RTX 4060 can operate within this environment is undeniably impressive. It proves there is a latent possibility for discrete GPUs on Windows on Arm, and it suggests Nvidia’s ambition to expand its reach beyond dedicated desktop hardware.

The promise of RTX Spark—100 fps at 1440p in the latest games—sets a high bar. As the technology matures and official drivers for RTX Spark become available, we can anticipate a future where Nvidia’s power is seamlessly woven into the fabric of Windows on Arm, unlocking entirely new possibilities for mobile and Arm-based computing.
