Stopping special characters made my passwords stronger


For many years, the quest for an unbreakable password led us down a familiar path. We all remember that time when creating a strong password felt like an exercise in chaos—a chaotic mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, at least one number, and hopefully, a special character. We learned to build our digital fortresses by following a specific blueprint: start with a capital letter, add some lowercase letters, throw in a number (often a birth year), and finish with a period or exclamation mark.

This approach was born of a desire for complexity. The logic was simple: if the password was sufficiently random and convoluted, it must be safe. It was a satisfyingly complex arrangement, a digital puzzle designed to stump casual intruders.

However, as technology advanced and security threats evolved, this method, while creative, began to show its cracks. The focus shifted from mere complexity to true, uncrackable strength. The realization dawned that simply mixing characters wasn’t enough; the methodology behind the creation needed a fundamental overhaul.

The story of password creation is a perfect example of how quickly security standards must evolve. What once felt like a sophisticated trick has now become an outdated guideline. Today, the emphasis is less on the sheer quantity of symbols and more on length and true randomness, ensuring that the digital locks we put in place are truly unbreakable.
